Splashy instantiation

“Apple seems poised to potentially fall into the same trap [as Meta], with Vision Pro a splashy instantiation of a mixed reality future we’ve all seen promised before but have no real interest in actually collectively buying into.”

Darrell Etherington in TechCrunch

Personally I like how Apple are positioning their device as “spatial computing” (as distinct from the gaming and socially oriented Metaverse) and the tech and UX is next-level sci-fi territory – so it’ll be interesting to see if it takes hold. But I do rather suspect we don’t really want to strap screens onto our faces for anything more than 20-30 minutes at a go, even if we can afford to.

Do I want one, though? Absolutely.
