Government 2010: the gist

You could easily spend your whole time at e-comms events, hearing the same speakers say similar things to the same people. They’re two a penny, and it’s hard to know which will be the good ones.

But as others observed and the Twitter buzz testifies, today’s Government 2010 shindig was a best of breed conference about open government with a great line-up, packed agenda well orchestrated live stream and live blog for those who couldn’t be there.

I was part of Harry Metcalfe’s panel discussion, the subject of which was ‘Digital engagement is everyone’s job’. I’ll be posting my notes and reflections in full at the weekend, but in the meantime, just so you know, the gist is: yes, it is.

Agree the livestream was excellent quality – good to be able to dip in and out of panels that sparked my attention (which meant most of the morning with headphones on!
Seeing the twitterstream was a good addition, but the scribblepad (or whatever it was called) for comments didn’t seem ot work consistently.
Overall very well organised though – credit to the team.

Many thanks to you Neil for your contribution yesterday and very kind comments. We are aware that there were a few minor glitches but all in all we are very grateful for the very positive reaction to the event in general and the web stream in particular.

There was a great atmosphere on the day and lots of side meetings were happening in the coffee area! The speakers and panelists made fabulous, positive contributions. We want to do more throughout 2010 – to ensure that we contribute to the debate – and see a sea-change in attitudes within government at local, regional and national level.
