I recently discovered the joys of the Google Redesigned plugin for Firefox 3.

Seriously, don’t even think twice. Just install it.
I’ve been using Gmail since its beta release and, despite its many strengths, have often struggled to find commonly used buttons because of the (frankly terrible) interface. But not any more.
